5 story building sprinkler part 2
In this video we continue our look at wiring the devices in the sprinkler room of our 5 story building. We wire up the dry sprinkler system devices, including a Potter PS40-2 low air switch and a Potter PS10-2 waterflow switch, and the wet sprinkler system, including a Potter VSR waterflow switch. We look at wiring the sprinkler bell to both waterflow devices. We also look at wiring up the fire pump conditions. We are monitoring the following conditions: Pump Run, Power Fail, and Phase Reversal.

5 Story Building Project - Sprinkler Room Part 1
Просмотров 10 тыс.2 года назад
In this video I continue the 5 Story Building Project by showing how the fire alarm devices in the sprinkler room get wired into the panel. I go over in detail how to wire an OS&Y valve and a butterfly valve. I also explain the features of the Notifier 10 point monitor module card called an XP-10M. I show how that gets wired into the field devices.
5 Story Building - Backbone of the SLC
Просмотров 39 тыс.3 года назад
This is the second video in the 5 story building project, where we take a look at the structure of the SLC loops in the building. We discuss the riser feeds and returns, the benefits of a style 6 loop, isolator modules, conduit layouts, and other topics.
New Fire Alarm System Installation - Series Preview - Video 44
Просмотров 18 тыс.4 года назад
This video is an introduction to a new series I'm doing where we look at the installation of a new fire alarm system protecting a 5-story senior living building. It previews future videos where we'll look at some of the following topics related to fire alarm system installation: - Wiring in style 6 SLC circuits - Isolation modules - Installing smoke detectors with sounder bases - Fire door rele...
43 - Troubleshooting Speakers - Introduction to Fire Alarms
Просмотров 11 тыс.4 года назад
In this video I explain why troubleshooting a speaker circuit is different than troubleshooting a strobe or horn strobe circuit. The capacitors in speakers can make it difficult to decipher what your meter is telling you, and I try to guide you through that.
42 - What is a Charger Fail?
Просмотров 12 тыс.4 года назад
In this video, the first to contain actual video, I show how you might mistake a charger for being faulty when really the battery was the problem. I show how to meter the charging current of a fire alarm panel, and I show the affect a set of faulty batteries can have on it.
41 - Elevator Shunt Simplified- Introduction to Fire Alarms
Просмотров 12 тыс.4 года назад
In this video I show the utilization of a Cooper Bussmann Power Module Switch which dramatically simplifies elevator shunt trip. You'll no longer need to two MR-101 relays, as this piece of equipment comes with cube relays installed and pre-wired.
40 - Elevator Shunt Power Monitor - Introduction to Fire Alarms
Просмотров 8 тыс.4 года назад
If someone turns off the shunt trip breaker, it renders all of the rest of the shunt trip setup useless. For this reason, we need to monitor the shunt trip power circuit. In this video I explain how we do that with an addressable monitor module and another MR-101 relay.
39 - Elevator Shunt Trip - Introduction to Fire Alarms
Просмотров 46 тыс.4 года назад
In this video I show the most common way I've seen elevator shunt trip setup and wired. I explain the concept behind elevator shunt trip and then explain how it's accomplished using both an addressable, programmable relay and a conventional, high-current relay. This video flows into the next one, which gets into how the elevator shunt power circuit is supervised by the fire alarm control panel.
38 - Elevator Recall with Independent Flashing Hat Relays - Introduction to Fire Alarms
Просмотров 5 тыс.4 года назад
In this video I continue explaining elevator recall but show examples of how you would accomplish "Flashing Hat" when only 1 relay can be accepted by the elevator controller at a time, but the pit and machine room would have to send the car to different floors than the top of shaft smoke detector.
37 - Elevator Recall - Correcting a mistake from the last video - Introduction to Fire Alarms
Просмотров 3,6 тыс.4 года назад
In this video I correct a mistake I made in the last video. I give an alternate building scenario which explains why I feel my explanation of zoning the relays in the last video wasn't done optimally.
36 - Elevator Recall - Programming Your Devices - Introduction to Fire Alarms
Просмотров 19 тыс.4 года назад
In this video I continue explaining how elevator recall gets tied into the fire alarm system. I show how the relays get labeled, wired, and programmed into the system depending on the style of building and the type of elevator equipment on site.
35 - Elevator Recall - Introduction to Fire Alarms
Просмотров 12 тыс.4 года назад
In this video I begin to explain how Elevator Recall works. I start with the basic concept and then delve into how it actually gets accomplished with the fire alarm system.
34 - Troubleshooting a short on a strobe circuit - Introduction to Fire Alarms
Просмотров 16 тыс.4 года назад
In this video I describe a problem I had at a job yesterday because it ties in nicely with what we've been talking about. I show how I traced a short circuit on some strobes, And how I knew when I had found the problem despite nothing because visibly wrong at the devices I was at.
33 - How to Read My Multimeter - Introduction to Fire Alarms
Просмотров 10 тыс.4 года назад
In the last video I began to show how to troubleshoot a ground fault, and in this one I expand on that a bit. I get into the different types of resistance readings your meter may show you and what those values mean in relation to each other.

    Hi, I have an NFS 320 notifier fire alarm panel with 138 smoke detectors and 25 modules. Now my panel is showing multiple trouble"INVERB". The same device showing "inverb" trouble blinks a green colour as a normal device, sometimes the same device blinks a red colour and sometimes the same device keeps the LED red in colour. Could you please suggest to me your expert advice?

    • @JoeKlochan
      @JoeKlochan Месяц назад

      Is it a new system, or was this existing and previously working fine? Do you have the proper SLC voltage on those devices? What exactly is the trouble message? The LED blink can be meaningful but it may act differently with output modules. It's been a while since I've worked on notifier, but on fci systems, those same types of modules only blink green if they're output modules. Another thing to try is disconnect a device and wire it directly to the panel and see if it clears.

    • @jeanclinton682
      @jeanclinton682 Месяц назад

      Thank you so much for your response. It was working well for the last 2 years. The SLC voltage is around 14. It shows trouble in systems like "INVERB".

    • @JoeKlochan
      @JoeKlochan Месяц назад

      I'm not familiar with INVERB, but usually their error message is short for "invalid reply, which is something like INVREP or something like that (it's been a while for me). My guess is that's what you have. Your voltage sounds correct, I'd try wiring the missing devices directly to the panel. Are you sure you have no ground faults on the SLC?

    hello pls let someone answer me. i am start learning FA. i am confused because if a smoke detector activate let say second one. so the SD will short circuit and all zone current will flow into that SD and no current will be left for SD installed after that activated or short circuited SD.

    Shouldn't the T6 wire from FMM-1 pass through the resistor first before going to the NC of the Monitor Relay? Otherwise, with the relay normally energized, NC & C will be connected, thus shorting T6 & T7 of the FMM-1, causing an Alarm state?

    • @JoeKlochan
      @JoeKlochan 7 месяцев назад

      Rewatch around the 3:00 mark. I emphasize that the labels on the relay don't apply, because the relay is now powered up, thus changing the state of the contacts. C/NC is now effectively C/NO, because the relay is activated.

    • @etherglow
      @etherglow 7 месяцев назад

      @@JoeKlochan Ah I see. Because the relay contacts are across C/NO while the relay is energized, and the FMM-1 module itself is set to Supervisory, it would not cause an Alarm state if power to the relay is lost.

    You are doing God's work! We just debugged a circuit in our apartment building in Indonesia with this video. I was wondering why the standby voltage to our bell was -7V (reverse polarity) instead of 24V, and then I remembered this lesson. Yes, the polarity switched and we got 24V when the bell was activated
